The Democratic Women of Buncombe County hosted a Summer Kickoff on June 28th at the Governor’s Western Residence featuring guest speaker Wayne Goodwin, Chair of the NC Democratic Party. Candidates and elected officials were recognized by DWBC President, Marnie Walsh, and guests enjoyed a barbecue dinner.
Goodwin applauded North Carolina Democrats for fielding candidates for every legislative seat in the state, giving all voters a choice of a Democrat to represent them in Raleigh. “This is a major accomplishment; too many years have passed with no options”, he said.
“Now, we need to show the Democratic difference. Show what we are fighting for, not what we are against,” Goodwin said. “We need to excite Democrats to turn out in this midterm election.”
He reminded the audience that Democrats are a plurality and that when Democrats turn out to vote, Democrats win. The goal, he said “is to break the super-majority in Raleigh.”
“We need energy. It will take everybody. It’s up to us. It’s going to take hard work,” Goodwin exhorted. “Whatever you have – give a little more. Do the things you promised. We have it in our reach to turn this state around.”
Buncombe Democrats are ready. Among the initiatives taking place this summer are cluster and precinct strengthening, phone banking, voter registration, canvassing, and event planning. Click here to find ways you can join us!
