In early July of 1964, President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into federal law, surrounded by prominent Black leaders and civil rights activists including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., A. Philip Randolph, Dr. Dorothy Height, and more. The Civil Rights Act prohibited discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, and it laid the foundation for the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

This anniversary is a reminder that this landmark law is within living memory for many Americans, and we march forward carrying the torch to continue the fight for freedom, equality, and justice for everyone.

Update: Dance Event Canceled

With so many people away on vacation or otherwise busy this summer, and so much to do now for our local Democratic candidates, we've regretfully decided to cancel the Dance for Democracy that was scheduled for July 18th. Instead, we're shifting our efforts to voter outreach, canvassing, phone banking and organizing to make sure that voters know why it's vital for them to come out and vote the whole ballot blue!
