Thanks to Amanda Edwards' victory as Buncombe County Commission Chair, the County Executive Committee members representing District 3 will be voting to recommend a candidate to fill her vacated Commission seat on Wednesday, December 18th at 6:30pm at BCDP Headquarters.  Originally, we had planned to hold the special election this Saturday at 10am but due to unforeseen circumstances, we have moved the meeting date and time to the 18th. Doors will open at 5:30pm to ensure we have plenty of time to get eligible voters and proxies checked in before the meeting is called to order.

After extensive research involving discussions with BCDP’s and NCDP’s attorneys, scholars in the field, and elected officials, we discovered that the proposed rules and other information we sent out earlier were inaccurate. The legal opinion of the statutes governing this election is that only County Executive Committee members representing the current District 3 are eligible to vote. Any Democrat residing in the current District 3 may run for this seat. We sincerely apologize to those within the 2022 District 3 lines who received information that turned out to be inaccurate. Those residing in the old district are not eligible to run or vote and we truly regret any confusion or disappointment this has caused.  We don't agree with the laws that were passed by the Republicans in the General Assembly, but we are obligated to follow them nonetheless.

These proposed rules have been reviewed by the attorneys referenced above as well as a parliamentarian to ensure we are in compliance with the laws.
