Finally: Medicaid Expansion Is Coming

Amidst all the awful news out of Raleigh these past few weeks, we finally have a date set for the expansion of Medicaid: December 1st.

Democrats in Raleigh waged a tireless fight against Republican opposition for over a decade to keep Medicaid expansion on the table, never giving up the fight so 600,000 additional North Carolinians can have healthcare they can afford.

Despite this success, the budget will become law without Governor Cooper's signature because, in Governor Cooper's words, it "seriously shortchanges our schools, prioritizes power grabs, keeps shady backroom deals secret and blatantly violates the constitution."

Rep. Lindsey Prather offered some candid thoughts on the process and content of the budget, from the lack of transparency to the way it shifts public money to private schools, in a podcast appearance last week.

Rep. Prather said, in part: "One of the major themes is power grabs... We see more examples of what we've already seen throughut this session, which is the Legislature, trying to bring as much power under the umbrella of the Legislative branch as they can, to the detriment of the people of North Carolina."
