Save the Date: May 18th for the Coordinated Campaign Launch Party! (BCDP Weekly)

The Biden/Harris team and our statewide candidates -- known together as the "Coordinated Campaign" -- will be opening a campaign office right here in the Buncombe Democratic Party Headquarters. They know that we are a key constituency necessary to win, so they're working side-by-side with our county's campaigns.

We're celebrating with a big Launch Party. We plan to grill up burgers, hotdogs, veggie options, and sides, and bring you great music and conversation.

All Buncombe County's Dem and Left-Leaning voters and their families are invited to join in the celebration: 11:30-1:30 Saturday, May 18 at 951 Old Fairview Road, Asheville, 28803 (right after our Monthly Meeting).  We'll be outside if weather permits, or indoors if the skies are not in a party mood.  Either way, we're so excited to have this major campaign in Buncombe!

Edwards Sanctioned for Violating Rules

For someone who says that nobody is above the law, our current representative to the United States Congress seems to have trouble applying it to himself. Rep. Chuck Edwards was sanctioned in a 6-0 vote by the bipartisan Communications Standards Commission, which regulates the content of official communications.

Congressional commission sanctions NC lawmaker over anti-Biden newsletters.

Democratic candidate for the 11th US Congressional District, Caleb Rudow, responded to the news: "Instead of focusing on serving constituents in WNC, my opponent disregarded well-known prohibitions and abused the power of his office to score political points," said Rudow.

The Citizen Times article quotes Henderson County Democratic Chair, Leslie Carey, who brought the complaint. "The statement was a violation because it was a political attack, Carey's complaint said, and because it was untrue, as it came from a failed attempt to impeach Biden that relied, in part, on a witness, Alexander Smirnov, who was later indicted for lying to the FBI."

Short Takes

~ We thank Julie Montanea for 10 years of dedicated service as Chair of BCDP Precinct 5.1. She has stepped down from that position to focus on the BCDP Data Team this crucial year, and as Treasurer of Democratic Congressional District 11. We welcome Robert Milnes as Chair and Phebe Watson as Secretary of 5.1.

~ Buncombe County is hosting a survey on early voting for the 2024 election, open until Friday, May 3rd. You may provide your input at: Early Voting Survey: 2024 Buncombe County Presidential Election.

~ A familiar former North Carolina legislator has been indicted again: Mark Meadows, Trump’s chief of staff, indicted in Arizona election interference case. Reports say he is among those charged, though his name does not appear in the indictment.

Take Action

Make Some Calls, Help Save Democracy

We are making it even easier for you to be a great communicator of our party's ideals and benefits by calling Dems and Left-Leaning Unaffiliates. We've created a video to walk you through phonebanking, because your neighbors need to hear from fellow Democrats like you.

Why now? Because the election starts with absentee voting in September, then early voting in October, and election day in early November. So, we're getting close to actual votes getting cast. People are making up their minds now, and the information you give can get them excited to vote for Democrats up and down the ballot. Your calls can result in votes essential to breaking the supermajority, restoring balance to our courts, and protecting our rights, safety and planet.

When phoning, we often hear that people are glad we reached out to them and appreciate the call. Make as many calls as you want, on your own schedule, to help get people out to vote for Democrats in this crucial election year.
