Spotlight on Jeff Jackson, Democratic Candidate for NC Attorney General (BCDP Weekly)

This week we’re spotlighting Jeff Jackson, the Democratic candidate for Attorney General.

Congressman Jackson, who served in Afghanistan before going to law school on the GI bill, served in the Gaston County District Attorney’s office before representing Mecklenburg County in the North Carolina Senate. After being elected to represent North Carolina’s 14th congressional district in 2022, he’s now best known for keeping us posted on what’s happening in Congress on his popular social media accounts.

Congressman Jackson is campaigning on maintaining transparency and accountability in the Attorney General’s office. The office should be used to defend the people of North Carolina, not as a means to persecute her most vulnerable.

In stark contrast, his opponent Congressman Dan Bishop has supported the GOP’s culture war agenda from his time in the North Carolina legislature all the way to Congress. He authored HB2, the “bathroom bill” that made it illegal for municipal governments to pass their own anti-discrimination ordinances. In addition to being known for his not-so-kind demeanor that has included mocking women at abortion legislation hearings, Bishop is also an election denier who recently compared Donald Trump’s felony conviction to racial discrimination under Jim Crow.

We need Democrat Jeff Jackson as our next NC Attorney General!

Pride Matters

We stand with our LGBT+ community

Happy Pride Month!  While Western North Carolina's official Pride event is held in September to avoid conflicting with others, June is Pride Month nationwide.

Sadly, the NCGOP is targeting our LGBTQ+ neighbors. Mark Robinson and his party members have referred to same-sex attracted folks as “maggots” and “filth” and called transgender kids “demonic” while suggesting they should be made to use the bathroom outside instead of the bathroom of their choice.

This election cycle is about making sure everyone is safe to make their home in North Carolina. Make sure people in your life know that the best way to protect the LGBTQ+ people in their lives is to VOTE this fall!
