Support Abortion Rights and our LGBTQIA+ Community

Let it be crystal clear: Democrats in Buncombe stand firmly opposed to the Republican attempts to take away reproductive rights and legislate hate and discrimination in North Carolina. The following resolutions were adopted unanimously at our convention in April:

• A Resolution on Reproductive Health Guarantees Via Constitutional Rights

• A Resolution in Support of the LGBTQIA+ Community

We urge all Democrats in Buncombe County to follow Governor Cooper’s lead. Reach out to Republicans who campaigned on protecting the right to abortion in North Carolina and encourage them to uphold his veto of SB20. You can find information on how to contact those individuals below.

Additionally, we call on all elected bodies in Buncombe County to commit (or recommit) to protecting our LGBTQIA+ neighbors, friends, and families. As state legislators choose to actively restrict access to care and opportunity to trans youth, political courage and specific commitments to recognize and protect them are needed now more than ever. Elected leaders at every level of government must use every lever of power they have to fight back.
