Sustaining Fund

 What is the “Sustaining Fund”?

Each year, the North Carolina Democratic Party asks every County Party in the state to contribute a specific amount of money to the year-round operations of the NCDP. This amount is called our “sustaining fund”.

These amounts are based on $0.02 per registered voter in the county, with no county paying less than $250 and no county paying over $5000.

What is it used for?

The Sustaining Fund helps with the costs of the state party support for us every year. The North Carolina Democratic Party uses our sustaining fund for:

  • Buncombe County access to VoteBuilder

  • State Party training on digital, finance/fundraising, and grassroots organizing

  • Costs for regular NCDP communication to county and grassroots groups

  • Materials for precinct meetings and county/district conventions

  • Facility rentals/licenses for virtual meeting software for State Executive Committee meetings

What happens with the extra funds we raise?

Once we raise enough to pay our sustaining fund amount, every additional dollar we raise stays here in Buncombe County to help us organize in 2022. We’ll use these funds to provide Zoom licenses for virtual meetings, support candidate forums, and events, plan and organize voter registration, and other important projects during this vital election year.

Your contribution, in any amount, at your annual precinct meeting is vital for our success. In 2021, we received nearly 500 donations from our annual precinct meetings, averaging about $32 each, helping us put over $15,000 towards our work.
