Great NC Statewide Candidates (BCDP Weekly)

We're excited to be voting for so many wonderful Democrats this year! Our Council of State slate features highly qualified, excellent candidates.

These include:

Natasha Marcus - North Carolina needs a Commissioner of State Insurance who works for the people, not for the insurance companies. We need Senator Natasha Marcus who won’t take money from insurance companies, unlike her opponent. Senator Marcus will ensure rates are fair, coverage is as advertised, and she will hold public hearings to make insurance companies justify their rate hikes.

Braxton Winston - Braxton Winston believes North Carolina can be not only a great state for business, but a great state for workers as well. Braxton Winston will advocate for workers by fighting for fair wages, worker protections, and rights to organize. He has an extensive career as a leader, mentor, and educator, and will make a superb Commissioner of Labor for a safe and protected workforce.

Jessica Holmes -Jessica Holmes has consistently championed job creation, education, affordable housing, and support for vulnerable populations. As State Auditor, she has demonstrated her ability to deliver impactful audits, identify wasteful spending, and enhance the transparency and accountability of government operations. Jessica Holmes understands the value of a dollar and also knows how to make meaningful, positive changes in the community.

Take Action — Opportunities to Make a Difference

Do Something!

You may have noticed a new feature on our buncombedems.org website, accessed by a tab on top of every page or the graphic on the home page saying:  "Do Something!" Using the phrase that Michelle Obama quoted at the DNC, this page is a quick and easy way to sign up for important volunteer opportunities throughout Buncombe County and help elect Democrats at every level. Visit buncombedems.org/dosomething and sign up for a shift -- or several!

Help Wanted at Poll Sites

Want to ensure that people have their proper opportunity to vote, or encourage them to vote for Democratic candidates? Be a Poll Observer (watching the process inside the poll site) or Poll Greeter (talking to voters before they enter). If your local site already has many volunteers, please consider stepping out of your neighborhood to help in other areas. Sign up for Poll Observing or Poll Greeting -- scroll and click on the tabs at the top (or dropdown menu on mobile) to find poll sites needing your assistance.

VP Debate Watch Party!

Join us as we watch Governor Tim Walz take the debate stage October 1st. We'll be gathering at Buncombe County Democratic Party Headquarters at 8pm. Everyone is invited! Let's come together and rally behind Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, and Democrats up and down the ballot in 2024. For more information and to sign up to attend, click here.

Note: in last week's issue, the date of Caleb Rudow's "Love Letter to Democracy" concert was incorrectly listed. It is October 8th. Tickets at secure.actblue.com/donate/love-letter.
