A huge THANK YOU to BCDP Chair Kathie Kline!
The January Monthly Meeting will be Kathie Kline's last as BCDP Chair, as she is stepping down later this month.
We thank Chair Kline for her extraordinary, tireless, and exemplary service to the Buncombe Democratic Party.
Under her leadership, in the November election Buncombe County increased voter engagement despite:
- gerrymandered districts and new voter ID laws put in place by the Republican supermajority,
- having to pivot to a new Presidential candidate,
- switching voter outreach to helping people affected by Hurricane Helene,
- creating a whole new plan, with Vice Chair Denise Marecki, in just days when several Early Voting and Election Day poll sites were lost or changed due to the hurricane,
- doing all this while working closely with the Buncombe Dems and the Coordinated Campaign to bring critical wins to local and state offices.
Buncombe County Democratic and Left-Leaning candidates, campaigns, elected officials, voters, supporters, volunteers, businesses and residents all owe a huge debt of gratitude to Kathie!
We are planning to hold a County Executive Committee election during the BCDP February Meeting, currently scheduled for February 15th, to fill State Executive Committee vacancies, the BCDP Chair position, possibly BCDP 1st Vice Chair and any other positions that may become vacant. If you wish to run for any of these spots, please contact BCDP Secretary Dana Stephenson at dana@buncombedems.org.
"Raise the Roof" Dance for Dems and Friends!
Join us on January 24 at the Orange Peel for a "Raise the Roof" dance party fundraiser supporting Democrats!
We’re going to have a terrific time with DJ Molly Parti while supporting two great causes: kicking off our effort to break the Republican supermajority in the NC Senate in 2026 and raising money for the Buncombe Democrats.
It is vitally important to break the Republican supermajority in the Senate. The Senate remains key to upholding Governor-elect Stein’s vetoes.
This event will also help the Buncombe Democrats replace the roof on our headquarters building - and add solar panels if we raise enough funds. Senator Mayfield is splitting the proceeds from all ticket sales and sponsorships with the BCDP so we can “raise” the roof! Please buy tickets and donate whatever you can.
We hope to see you on January 24, 2025 from 7–10 pm at the Orange Peel! Tickets and sponsorships are available at:

While businesses cannot donate to political campaigns, businesses and individuals can donate to the Buncombe Democratic Party’s building fund. If you want to make a donation directly to that fund, you can do that via this link (note: you must click the link above for tickets): DONATE TO THE BCDP.
