Tell Brad Briner to Release WNC Recovery Funds

On December 11, 2024, SB382 authorized $100M in crucial relief funds for our local governments. Since then, Republican State Treasurer Brad Briner has been sitting on his hands -- and on the funding!

This delay is hurting local governments, school systems, and communities that desperately need these resources to meet their budgets and rebuild after the devastation of Hurricane Helene.

It’s time for action to make sure Western North Carolina gets the support it deserves. If you're already calling your legislators, just add Treasurer Briner’s number to your list and demand that the money be released to those in WNC who need it: (919) 814-4000.

Annual Precinct Organizing Meetings Set for March 22nd

If you're looking for ways to make a real difference in these unprecedented times, a great step is to be part of your local Democratic Precinct -- the most grassroots,  local organizational unit of the county party.

Every year, all precincts gather, grouped by geographic cluster, to make plans for the year ahead, to hear from elected officials and other guest speakers, and to organize for success!

After we meet together by cluster, everyone breaks out into their precincts for discussion, to elect their precinct officers, and to vote on resolutions that can work their way up the party structure to be part of the county, district, state and even the national Democratic platform. It takes five registered Democrats living in a precinct for a quorum, and many precinct meetings will have lots more than that present!

For more information, visit our new web page for this year's meetings: Annual Organizing — Buncombe Dems

To find your precinct, you can look up your voting information at NC Board of Election's Voter Search.  Once you know your precinct, look for its cluster on this page and then sign up to attend at Buncombe Dems March 22nd Meetings.

PLUS, wear your cluster pride - see our store for new t-shirts and hoodies letting people know that you are a proud local Dem! Great to wear to your precinct organizing meeting (makes a fun photo...).

"Take Action" Item of the Week

Weekly ways to stand up for our communities and our democracy.

Several purchase blackouts are being planned. The first of these is a "No-Buy Friday" on February 28th.

If you wish to join this effort, on Friday, February 28th, refrain from buying anything either online or in-store. If you have an urgent need that day, try to choose a local independent business and support them--preferably paying cash rather than credit card.

While some say that one day won't make much of a difference, this nationwide effort should get noticed in any case!

After this, you may want to plan for a No Buying from Amazon week: March 7-14.
