Spotlight on Jessica Holmes, Democratic Candidatefor NC State Auditor (BCDP Weekly)

This week we’re focusing on State Auditor Jessica Holmes and her race to keep her position as our state’s top watchdog.

Auditor Holmes was an employment lawyer by profession, and she brought her legal expertise to the Office of the State Auditor after she was appointed to the position by Governor Cooper in 2023. Previously, Holmes served as the Chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners.  Her campaign proudly stands for Integrity, Accountability, and Transparency.

Dave Boliek, who just recently won the Republican runoff, identifies himself primarily as a member of the UNC Board of Trustees. It’s a position he’s used to push a culture-war agenda against “DEI” and “pronouns”—a decision that is bearing consequences as the Board just gutted efforts across the entire UNC system related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. He wants the State Auditor to focus on “election integrity” and has used his platform to cast doubt on our elections process here in NC.

Those are just some reasons why it's so important we elect Jessica Holmes for NC State Auditor.

Be a Volunteer Poll Observer

The Buncombe County Democrats are gearing up for the upcoming General Election by enlisting volunteers for four-hour shifts as indoor Poll Observers.

Recent changes by Republicans in the NC General Assembly have altered how Poll Observers operate, allowing them to move around more freely and increasing their presence at polling locations. With more Republican Poll Observers expected this year, the NC Democratic Party is keen to fill all available Poll Observer shifts with dedicated volunteers.

We're starting our recruitment now, aiming to make it easy for these volunteers to later sign up as outside Poll Greeters too.
