We Will Always Keep Fighting

On Saturday, over 250 of you rallied with us to support access to reproductive care and oppose the Republican abortion bill quickly moving its way through the NCGA. We were one of many cities where North Carolinians came together to show that public opinion was clearly against this bill.

Last night, Republicans used their supermajority powers in both the House and Senate to override Governor Cooper's veto of Senate Bill 20 anyway. They went back on campaign promises, ignored the people, disregarded medical experts who testified, and showed us their real goal is and always has been to fully ban abortion in North Carolina.

I want to emphasize that y'all did everything right. You voted. You knocked on doors. You made phone calls. You brought friends and neighbors to the polls. You donated to candidates outside of Buncombe. You called lawmakers outside your districts and wrote postcards.

While our voices may not have been able to stop this bill, I'm going to ask y'all to stay engaged as we continue to fight against Republican extremism, because they are clearly not stopping here. They push bills like this through with limited debate and public comment because they know they are not popular, and as long as they have the power to harm people, they will.

Democrats must take away that power in 2024, and it's going to take all of your frustration and energy and support to make that happen.

We'll be connecting with local groups about the best ways to protect each other and support those who need abortion care under this new reality, and we'll share those opportunities with all of you.

This community knows how to organize and get folks elected, and we know what lies ahead as we prepare for 2024. So take some time to mourn, be angry, and comfort each other - and let that all energize you for the work ahead.

Support Organizing Across NC

Yesterday's vote is just more proof that Republicans in North Carolina are committed to an extreme, unpopular agenda that will harm our state.

In addition to showing your outrage by attending events below, there are multiple ways you can donate to make an impact.

The Carolina Abortion Fund provides financial support to patients who cannot afford the full cost of a procedure, and we're hearing they're low on funds right now. Read more about their work here.

To win in 2024, Democrats across our state are going to need financial support to overcome gerrymandering and restrictive new laws designed to make it harder to vote.

Pick a cause below and chip in today to provide resources to continue the fight, either with direct patient support or electoral organizing.
